Tirupati Congress Protests Rahul Gandhi's Detention Over Voter List Issues
Congress leaders in Tirupati staged a protest on Thursday against the detention of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi. Wearing black clothes, they gathered at the Gandhi statue to condemn the police action.
Gowdapera Chittibabu, the Tirupati Urban district president, called the detention undemocratic and a black day for Indian democracy. He stated that the leaders were detained while protesting near Jantar Mantar against alleged irregularities in the electoral rolls.
Complaint against Election Commission
The protest was held following a call from the AICC and APCC. Leaders said the Election Commission failed to correct mistakes in the voter list. They allege the revision process favored the BJP.
Chittibabu demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He warned that their movement will continue until the demand is met, describing the struggle as a movement to protect the Constitution.

Tirupati Congress Demands CEC Gyanesh Kumar Resignation Over Voter List Revision
Congress leaders and workers in Tirupati held a protest demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of voter lists.
Workers started with a rally from the Vivekananda statue and marched to the Municipal Corporation office. Protesters carried effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CEC Gyanesh Kumar while raising slogans against the Election Commission. Police stepped in quickly when they tried to burn the effigies.
Tirupati Urban District Congress president Gowdapera Chittibabu said the CEC should step down for acting against democratic principles. He claimed the SIR process has wrongly removed lakhs of eligible voters. This has hit weaker sections, Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities the hardest.
Party leaders joined the protest
Senior leaders Mangati Gopal Reddy, Sivasankar, Nanne Khan, and Siva Balaji took part in the demonstration. They said the Election Commission has become partial. They also claimed other commissioners had repeatedly objected to one-sided decisions. Heavy police security was in place throughout the protest to stop things from escalating.
This protest was part of a nationwide agitation organised to oppose the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists.
Andhra Pradesh Urban Local Bodies to Publish Electoral Rolls by September 22
Voters in Andhra Pradesh should know about the upcoming schedule. State Election Commission has set September 22 as the deadline to publish ward-wise voter lists for 29 urban local bodies. This is a very important step for the next civic elections.
Municipal body work
Officials are now working on 12 municipal corporations. These include Greater Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Kurnool, Kadapa, Tirupati, Anantapur, Eluru, Ongole, Chittoor, and Machilipatnam. This follows similar work finished in 58 other areas, like Vizianagaram.
State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha asked municipal commissioners to follow these dates. Voter lists form the base for the election process, which includes deciding on ward reservations and mayoral seats later. Check these lists to make sure your details are correct.

Over 4 Lakh Voter Applications Pending in Andhra Pradesh
Election officials in Andhra Pradesh have a big backlog of work. The deadline to submit claims and objections for voter lists was September 10. Official data shows 4.10 lakh applications using forms 6, 7, and 8 are waiting to be cleared.
New voter registrations through Form 6 reached 3.77 lakh applications. Of those, 2.52 lakh are still being processed. Districts such as YSR, Nellore, and Tirupati have many of these requests pending. Also, Form 8 applications for address changes and corrections have a backlog of 1.49 lakh.
Status of voter roll updates
Election Commission is running a special revision of voter lists. Some districts like Kurnool and Chittoor have finished hearings for most notices. However, others like Palnadu and Anantapur are moving slowly. Since nearly 40 percent of voters are still waiting to be added to the final lists, officials have a hard task ahead.
