Here is what's happening right now in Tripura.

Agartala civic elections are likely to happen in the last week of November 2026. The State Election Commission is getting ready for polls. These cover Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and 20 other Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across Tripura.
Everything depends on one hard deadline. The tenure of all 21 existing urban local bodies expires on 9 December 2026. The full election process must be completed before that date.
A high-level meeting on 8 October at State Guest House in Agartala looked at election work, security arrangements and logistics. Senior police officials, District Magistrates and State Election Commissioner were present.
Voter list timeline: Draft rolls were published on 1 October. Claims and objections were accepted until 8 October. Objection disposal will finish by 12 October. The final electoral roll will be published on 15 October 2026.
The draft roll currently holds 6,31,388 voters across 21 ULBs. That includes 3,22,360 women, 3,08,983 men and 45 third-gender electors. These numbers will change once the final roll is out.
Polling stations are set. The final list of 783 polling stations was released on 25 September. Of these, 439 are within Agartala Municipal Corporation area. The draft had proposed 784, but the number dropped after the claims-and-objections process.
Elections are expected after the Durga Puja period. Vijaya Dashami falls on 21 October. The official Mayer Gaman programme in Agartala is on 23 October. The notification should come after that, leaving just enough time before the December deadline.
Why it matters: The last AMC election was held on 25 November 2021. BJP won all 51 wards. The 2026 poll will decide who runs the next corporation. Any delay past the December window would create a serious gap in local administration.
Voters should check the final electoral roll on 15 October. That is the first big step in this election cycle.

Tripura State Election Commissioner PK Chakraborty held a review meeting at State Guest House on Thursday to get ready for urban local body elections across 21 municipal bodies in the state. This comes as the current urban local body authority's term ends on December 9.
Senior officials were part of the discussions, including Director General (In-Charge) GS Rao, the Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), District Magistrates, and Superintendents of Police. They talked about coordination and working methods to make sure polling is free and fair.
Chakraborty confirmed that the urban development department has finalised the list of polling stations. The draft notification was issued earlier, and the final notification is now done. Electoral roll revisions are also going on.
The main point here is the final publication of voter lists is scheduled for October 15. Once that is done, Election Commission will move ahead with declaring and conducting the elections.
The urban local body polls cover Agartala Municipal Corporation and 21 urban bodies across Tripura. Voters should watch out for the voter list publication date to make sure their names are in before voting day.

Tripura State Election Commission has started preparations for elections to 21 urban local bodies, including Agartala Municipal Corporation. These bodies will finish their term on December 9, so elections need to happen before that date.
State Election Commissioner P K Chakravarti held a meeting in Agartala on Thursday. DGP in-charge G S Rao, district magistrates, superintendents of police and senior officials also attended. They discussed how ready everything is for the polls.
Urban Development Department has already picked polling stations after releasing draft and final notifications. Draft voter rolls are now out for eligible citizens. Final electoral rolls are expected on October 15.
On security, G S Rao confirmed that Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles have enough staff for the polls. Central Armed Police Force teams already in the state can also be used. But he said no extra CAPF teams will be brought in from other states for these urban local body elections. Local forces will handle security to keep voting peaceful.
The full election schedule will come through an official notification later. Chakravarti was asked about a possible polling date. He said it cannot be shared before the notification is out. Voters should watch for official updates in the coming weeks.

Elections to Tripura's 21 Urban Local Bodies are likely in the last week of November 2026. The whole voting process should wrap up by December 9, which is when existing Urban Local Body terms end. State Election Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty confirmed this after an admin meeting at State Guest House in Agartala.
The meeting had Acting DGP G.S. Rao, IG (Law and Order) Manchak Ippar, all District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, and senior department officials. Chakraborty said this was the first official-level meeting to go over how the election machinery will work day to day.
State Election Commission will use Tripura's own security resources. No extra central forces will be called in. DGP Rao said Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles have enough manpower for peaceful and smooth polls. There is no provision for bringing additional CAPF companies from outside for Urban Local Body elections.
Urban Development Department has already finalised polling stations for the 21 Urban Local Bodies. A total of 783 polling stations have been set up, including 439 in Agartala Municipal Corporation. Final electoral rolls for municipal areas are scheduled to be published on October 15. After that, the Commission will issue the election notification and move ahead with the remaining stages.
The exact polling date has not been announced yet. Chakraborty said a formal announcement will come once the process kicks off. Voters in Tripura should expect a short notice period after the rolls are published, so it helps to keep checking updates from local election offices.

Tipra Motha has swept the TTAADC Village Committee Elections 2026. The State Election Commission declared the final results at 6:00 AM on October 6, 2026. This is a big win for the party.
Out of 4,594 declared seats, Tipra Motha won 3,428. That is 74.62 per cent of the total. BJP came second with 859 seats. Independent candidates picked up 173. CPI(M) took 87, IPFT secured 33, and Congress won 14.
Counting is fully done. No pending work remains in any of the 45 counting halls. The process covered 44 R.D. Blocks and 587 Village Committees. 1,644 seats went uncontested, which added to TMP's total.
Even in direct contests, TMP held its ground. They won 1,867 of the 2,950 contested seats. BJP managed 778 in that category. The 2026 election process has now officially wrapped up.

Tipra Motha Party (TMP), the tribal-based ally of BJP, won a big victory in Tripura's Village Committee elections held on September 28. Tripura State Election Commission declared results on Monday evening.
Out of 4,078 seats declared so far, TMP took 3,177 while BJP secured 668. Their other ally, Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), won 20 seats. Among the opposition, CPI(M) picked up 60, Congress 10, and Independents 143.
Ballot paper counting is still going on at 45 centres across the state. Elections were held for 4,597 seats in 587 Village Committees under Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Of these, 1,644 seats went uncontested while three seats had no nominations at all. TMP alone won 1,557 seats without any contest.
Chief Minister Manik Saha called the results a strong mandate for NDA.

Tripura State Election Commission updated its results portal at 7:30 PM on 5 October 2026. Tipra Motha Party (TMP) is comfortably ahead in the 2026 TTAADC Village Committee elections with 2,939 seats declared won so far.
Results are out for 3,688 of the 4,594 Village Committee constituencies listed on the portal. The remaining 906 are still being counted.
BJP is second with 567 seats, well behind TMP's total. The gap between the two stands at 2,372 seats. Independent candidates have won 110 seats, putting them third.
CPI(M) has picked up 45 seats. IPFT (Indigenous People's Front of Tripura) got 17. Congress managed only 10. AIFB, CPI, CPI(ML)L and RSP have not won a single seat as per the latest update.
Counting is on at different stages across Tripura districts. In Dhalai, results are out for 468 of 902 constituencies. Gomati has seen 611 results declared, with 172 still being counted. Khowai and West Tripura have finished declaring all their constituencies, 541 and 652 respectively. In South Tripura, 524 of 538 are already declared.
The Commission has said its online figures are based on data entered by Returning Officers from their counting centres. The numbers are likely to change as more results get updated in the system.
Nearly 80 per cent of constituencies are already declared, and TMP is firmly in the lead. A final picture will come only after all 4,594 constituencies are declared.

Re-polling is on today, Saturday, at three seats in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council Village Committee elections. Voting started at 7 am and runs till 4 pm at the set polling stations.
Here are the three seats in scope:
All three seats are ready. Preparations are already complete.
One change has everyone talking. Dayabati Reang, the BJP candidate from Seat No. 3 of Ward No. 2 of Gamaria Village Committee, reportedly joined Tipra Motha on Thursday evening. She made the switch even after Election Commission had announced the re-poll over voting-related incidents.
Here is the twist. Her name is still on the ballot paper as the BJP nominee. Her political association has changed though. I find that detail hard to ignore, and so do political observers tracking the tribal areas closely.
The shift has sparked debate about BJP's organisational hold in tribal belts. It also raises questions about what comes next for the BJP and Tipra Motha alliance.

Tripura's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls starts from October 27, 2026. The Election Commission of India approved a revised schedule for this.
The dates were shifted to avoid clashing with Village Committee elections under Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, held on September 28. Smart move, honestly.
Here's the full timeline, step by step.
The draft electoral roll will be published on December 12, 2026. Citizens can file claims and objections from December 12 to January 10, 2027. Notice and disposal continues until February 9, 2027.
January 1, 2027 is the qualifying date for the revised roll. The final electoral roll comes out on February 15, 2027.
West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS urged voters to stay alert during verification. He asked them to make sure their names, addresses and other details are correct in the records. Officials clarified that no eligible voter's name can be deleted without following the prescribed procedure.
Citizens who find their name missing or details wrong after the draft roll is out can use the claims and objections process to get it corrected. Special support will be available for elderly voters and those who need help completing the process.

Tripura Minister Sudhanshu Das has criticized the opposition, calling the demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation "illogical and baseless".
Speaking to ANI in Agartala, Das strongly condemned the protest led by Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. He said people should not pay much attention to what "Nakli Gandhi" says. India is known as the mother of democracy in the world, he added.
He also questioned the Congress record in Tripura. Two years ago, Panchayat polls were held for around 6,500 seats, but the party contested only 731 of them. "If you contest only 731 out of 6,500 seats and cannot field candidates in the rest, does that mean you will simply say there was vote chori after losing?" Das asked.
On the Village Committee elections held in the TTAADC area on September 27, he pointed out that Congress contested fewer than 400 of the total 4,597 seats. In his view, the party has lost more than 96 elections under Rahul Gandhi's leadership and is now trying to shift the blame onto others.
Das also referred to a recent election in Dharmanagar, where CPI(M) state secretary and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury reportedly said Congress would not be able to appoint counting agents. "People should check the facts before making allegations against electoral institutions," he said.
Congress has demanded action against the CEC over alleged irregularities in the electoral-roll revision process. The Election Commission has rejected the allegations and said its actions are in line with the law.

BJP in Tripura has filed a complaint with the State Election Commission, asking for repolling at Wareng Bari SB School booth in Matabari RD Block. The complaint is about alleged disruptions during TTAADC Village Committee elections on September 28 and 29, 2026.
The Tripura State Executive Committee of BJP submitted a written representation dated September 29. It says the polling at the booth under Gamaria Village Committee was not free, peaceful or fair. The party claims supporters of alliance partner TIPRA Motha took control of the polling station and interfered with voting. Ordinary voters were reportedly stopped from entering the polling centre.
BJP wants the State Election Commission to look into what happened. If the allegations are found to be true, the party is asking for fresh polling. It has also called for an impartial inquiry into the matter.
This complaint matters because Wareng Bari was also where an earlier shooting incident took place. The incident involved TIPRA Motha candidate Khachindra Reang during polling on September 28. One person was shot and two others were injured in that incident.
BJP and TIPRA Motha had agreed to work together in Village Committee elections. Even so, candidates from both parties contested against each other in some constituencies. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha had called the two parties alliance partners for these polls.
The State Election Commission or any judicial authority has not confirmed these allegations as facts. The Commission's decision on the repoll demand will be closely watched.

TIPRA Motha has approached State Election Commission after an alleged gun attack on a candidate during Gamaria Village Council election.
The incident has raised serious safety concerns for candidates and the conduct of polling in the region. TIPRA Motha is asking for urgent action from the election body.
This is a developing story. More details are expected as State Election Commission looks into the matter.
