Agartala, September 29: Tipra Motha Party has asked Tripura State Election Commission to step in after an armed attack on its candidate during Village Committee polling.
Party candidate Kachindra Reang, 36, was shot in the stomach at Wareng Bari Ward No. 2 in Gamaria VC under Matarbari RD Block on September 28. Two supporters, Naithok Jamatia and Udairam Reang, were also caught in the violence. Udairam was shot in the leg.
Party Demands Police Action and Security
All three were rushed to GBP Hospital in Agartala after Reang's injuries proved serious. An FIR has been filed with the local police station, but the party is not satisfied.
TMP leaders called this a direct threat to voter safety and the electoral process itself. They said no election should ever come at the cost of a life.
The complaint asks SEC to intervene right away, direct police to arrest those responsible, and deploy enough security around Gamaria VC. The party is especially worried about post-poll violence and retaliation against candidates, party workers, and the injured candidate's family.
The letter was signed by TMP General Secretary and Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma along with MLAs Ranjit Debbarma, Manab Debbarma, Biswajit Kalai, and several MDCs representing the party.
