Electoral Roll Revision Updates for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh
Voter lists in the north are getting an update. Officials have confirmed that no Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls will happen in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh this year. Instead, a Special Intensive Revision is planned for March next year.
Reasons for the schedule
This delay happens because the process waits for the census to finish and for heavy winter snowfall to clear. The timing matches these regions with Himachal Pradesh for the upcoming work. Authorities take this matter seriously. Concerns that people living here illegally might change voter documents make this check very important for keeping records accurate.
Past problems, like the cancellation of DDC seats in Kupwara and Bandipora because of ineligible candidates, show why this scrutiny is needed. While other parts of the country finish their revision by the end of this year, these hilly regions will wait until the spring weather turns fair.
