Virudhunagar

Congress named three-time Virudhunagar MP B. Manickam Tagore as the new president of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. This change replaces K. Selvaperunthagai and shows a shift in how the party will work in the state. Tagore is close to Rahul Gandhi. He takes over while the party talks about who to partner with in the future.

Some party members felt the old leadership didn't match the current political mood. Tagore previously talked about looking into new alliances, like possible ties with TVK. This often put him against the current DMK alliance.

Leadership Shift in Tamil Nadu

It will be interesting to see how this change affects coalition dynamics in Chennai and the rest of the state.

Election Commission of India has initiated preparations to conduct by-elections for six vacant assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. The seats currently vacant include Trichy (East), Madurantakam, Dharapuram, Perundurai, Ambasamudram, and Virudhunagar.

The poll body is coordinating with district election officers to ensure all necessary arrangements, including the preparation of electronic voting machines, are completed. While the law allows for a six-month window to fill vacancies, officials indicated that the process is being expedited to hold elections across multiple states simultaneously.
