Tamil Nadu Bypoll Results: TVK, AIADMK, DMK In Three-Cornered Fight For Two Seats
Tamil Nadu is waiting for bypoll results in Dharapuram and Madurantakam. The sitting AIADMK MLAs from both seats left the party and are now contesting again on TVK's ticket.
It is a three-way fight between TVK, AIADMK, which wants to win back these seats, and DMK, now in the Opposition.
Turnout and Puducherry Results
Both constituencies saw voter turnout go past 80%. The big question is whether TVK can repeat its strong May show. Results are also due from Puducherry's Thattanchavady, which was vacated by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy.

Six Bypolls Across 4 States and UT Go to Polls Today
Voting is happening in six by-elections across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Assam. Polling started at 8 am today. Results come out on October 9.
This is a key test for the ruling alliances. These seats became vacant after winners in some constituencies picked one seat and resigned from the other.
Seats and parties in the race
West Bengal: Nandigram and Rejinagar seats are open. The Election Commission has frozen the TMC party name and election symbol after the party split into two groups. BJP is pushing hard here, especially in Nandigram, where they nominated Hasirani Rath. Mamata Banerjee's TMC faction has backed Congress candidate Milan Pradhan. CPI and a rival TMC group are also contesting.
Tamil Nadu: Madurantakam and Dharapuram have four-way fights between TVK, DMK, AIADMK and CPI. Former AIADMK MLAs K Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama are contesting on TVK tickets. With 27 and 30 candidates respectively, vote splitting could matter a lot here.
Puducherry and Assam: Thattanchavady in Puducherry and the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam will also see voting today. Both are seen as tests of how strong the ruling alliances are locally.

Postal ballot facility extended for COVID patients and elderly voters
Election Commission of India confirms that voters with COVID-19 or those suspected of having the virus can use postal ballots for upcoming by-elections. This service is available for Madurantakam and Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu, plus Thattanchavady in Puducherry.
Rules for postal ballots
The commission also allows this option for voters aged 85 and older, as well as people with benchmark disabilities. To qualify, these voters must be listed in the electoral roll database. Anyone with the virus needs a certificate from an authorized doctor, which the Returning Officer will then check.
This decision helps at-risk citizens vote safely. It follows the process used in the 2021 Assembly elections to keep the voting process open to everyone.
