Naroda

New data shows Gujarat has become a big center for political funding. During the 2023-24 financial year, six political parties received donations totaling about ₹1,700 crore. This jump has raised questions about how clear these financial reports are.

Concerns over funding

Aam Janmat Party is a main point of concern. Even though the party has very few votes, it reported receiving ₹836 crore over two years. Although registered in Bihar, the party listed an address in the New Naroda area of Ahmedabad. Reports show many small, inactive parties are based in Ahmedabad, specifically in Naroda.

Regulatory bodies now face pressure to look into these funding patterns. Voters have a right to know where this large amount of money comes from and how it is used. Some of these groups do not report their spending well, which adds to public doubt.
