Manish Sisodia was detained on Saturday during a big AAP protest outside the Election Commission office in Chandigarh. The party raised serious questions over alleged vote chori and irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
Senior AAP leaders including Punjab President Aman Arora, Cabinet Ministers Harpal Singh Cheema and Baljit Kaur, and party media in-charge Baltej Pannu joined the protest. Protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and called for stronger protection of citizens' voting rights.
Sisodia did not hold back. He accused the BJP-led Centre and the Election Commission of harming democratic rights through irregularities in the voter-list revision process. Voting rights belong to citizens, he said, and cannot be taken away arbitrarily.
Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon hit back hard, saying AAP itself has been guilty of vote theft during municipal elections. He pointed to Supreme Court-ordered re-elections in Patiala, Moga and Baghapurana as proof. They should be ashamed, he added.
The Chandigarh protest is part of a larger political push over voter-list revisions and demands for accountability from the Election Commission.
