Election Commission Postpones CEC Gyanesh Kumar's UP Events Amid Internal Dissent Row
Election Commission has postponed Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's upcoming events in Meerut and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. This comes just days after reports of internal disagreement inside the poll body came out.
What happened
A report published on September 23 said two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, raised 14 objections in 10 months over how the Special Intensive Revision process was being run across several states. That's a lot of concerns from inside the Commission itself.
Why the postponement matters
Gyanesh Kumar was set to speak at a regional conference on Election Literacy Clubs and ECINET in Meerut on Thursday. He was also meant to run a youth outreach programme in Varanasi. Both events are now delayed.
The timing does raise questions. Elections are a main part of Indian democracy. Any signs of disagreement within the Election Commission deserve public attention. Voters should stay informed about how the poll body works.

Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sabha and MLC Election Schedule Announced
Election time is here again in Uttar Pradesh. Election Commission released the dates for 10 Rajya Sabha seats and 11 Legislative Council seats. October will be a busy month for the state.
Voting for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats happens on October 16. MLAs will use special violet-coloured pens from the commission. Counting starts the same day at 5 pm. The process finishes by October 19.
Legislative Council elections
Polling for 11 Legislative Council seats from graduate and teacher constituencies is on October 23. This includes areas like Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Allahabad, Jhansi, Bareilly, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, and Faizabad. Counting for these seats is on October 27.
Model Code of Conduct is now active in these areas. Parties are busy picking candidates. These contests show what might happen in the 2027 Assembly elections.

MLC Dharmendra Bhardwaj Launches Voter Camps in Meerut
After 61,728 names were removed from electoral rolls in Meerut City, MLC Dharmendra Kumar Bhardwaj started free voter service camps. These camps will run at all 342 polling booths in Assembly Constituency 48. They aim to make sure every eligible person can vote in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.
Voter support services
The camps help citizens check their registration status. Volunteers also help with submitting Form 6, 7, and 8, and give advice on required documents. Residents can get help using the voters' portal. These camps are neutral. The main goal is to restore voting rights to people who were removed by mistake or because they moved.

Court upholds Azam Khan jail term in hate speech case
Local court in Meerut kept a two-year prison sentence for Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. This concerns a 2019 hate speech case about comments he made at a public rally in Bhot. The court rejected his appeal against the conviction. This conviction previously led to his removal from the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly.
Details on court rulings
This case started after Khan made remarks about district officials during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The court kept this sentence in place. Still, the court did clear him in a separate case from the same campaign period. Khan currently faces many criminal charges. He is serving time in Rampur district jail for another matter tied to a PAN card.
