Punjab and Haryana High Court Seeks Kapurthala Mayoral Election Records
Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the state government to provide all records from the July 8 Kapurthala Municipal Corporation mayoral election. This decision comes after reports of rule violations and claims that the voting lacked a proper majority.
MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh and 26 councillors filed the petition. They state they hold a 27-vote majority in the 51-member body. The group claims the election was illegal. They say the Municipal Commissioner declared a mayor without letting their faction vote or suggest candidates.
Details of the petition
Petitioners also claim that required videography of the event did not happen. This goes against past court orders and election rules.
