Analysis from Sabar Institute shows that over two lakh voters in Telangana got Logical Discrepancy notices during the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision. The names on the notices had no reason written against them.
The institute checked the Logical Discrepancy lists covering all 36,169 polling booths in Telangana and a total of 92,85,255 voter names. Their findings are important. 2,01,249 voters were flagged in these lists, but the Reason column against each of them was left completely blank.
Look at it closely. Not one mismatch, not one error, no explanation at all. Just a flag.
Inconsistent Reasons for Notices
The analysis showed two specific cases. At one polling booth in Uppal, 77 voters got notices without a stated reason. At a booth in Kamareddy, the number was 75. Both situations are worrying because voters should know what the problem is before they can respond.
There is another point the institute raised. Among those who got notices without reasons, Muslim names made up 25.1% of the total flagged voters. By comparison, the Muslim population share in Telangana stands at 12.7% based on the 2011 Census. The institute clarified that this is just a comparison between two figures, nothing more. But it raises questions people will ask.
Gender and age showed a clear pattern too. Men accounted for 96.7% of the 2,01,249 flagged voters, and only 38 of them were below 40 years of age. Random flags do not usually look this lopsided.
The institute also looked into specific entries. For booth 59 in Kapuwada, Sirpur, one entry involved a 58-year-old man, identified as Muslim, with the reason column left blank. Another involved a 49-year-old man, identified as Hindu, with no reason stated. Oddly, the entry right above it, involving a 36-year-old man, did list Parent Name Mismatch as the reason.
That inconsistency is the real problem here. If some voters get a clear reason and others do not, how is anyone supposed to file an appeal? You cannot contest what you cannot see.
The Sabar Institute questioned whether a rule is being applied without the Election Commission stating the basis for it. Fair question, especially when voter lists are concerned.
