Marathwada Ranks Second in Maharashtra Voter Roll Digitisation
Marathwada division ranks second in Maharashtra for digitizing voter list forms. Data from July 25 shows the region is 72% done with this task. Amravati division holds the top spot in the state with 78% completion.
Officials in Hingoli and Parbhani districts report good progress, with both areas hitting 81% digitization. Departments are using the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation scheme to reach eligible people. Deputy district election officer Savita Choudhar said Booth Level Officers are visiting homes to check details, making sure the final voter lists are accurate and clear.
Deadline extended for voter list update
Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for this special review to August 8. The extra time helps officials finish the checking process well.

Maharashtra Electoral Roll Revision Begins June 30
Maharashtra election authorities are getting ready for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral roll. Physical verification starts on June 30. Officials already mapped 75% of 9.8 crore voters using old records from 2002.
Mapping is going well overall. However, cities with many people moving in and out are slower. Districts like Mumbai Suburban, Pune, and Thane are below 60%. Rural areas like Hingoli and Ratnagiri have much higher numbers.
Voter verification process
Authorities want the process to be clear. They asked political parties to pick Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for every station. So far, 1.7 lakh agents are on board to help find duplicate or deceased voters.
Enumerators will visit homes soon. They will give out pre-filled forms so voters can verify details and give updated photos.

Parbhani-Hingoli MLC Election Results 2026 Declared
Results for the Parbhani-Hingoli Local Authorities Constituency election to the Maharashtra Legislative Council were officially declared on June 22, 2026. Mahayuti candidate Saeed Khan of the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) secured a decisive victory, defeating the MVA-backed candidate Vivek Navandar.
Polling for this biennial election took place on June 18, 2026, with approximately 465 elected representatives from local self-government bodies participating in the process. The victory is seen as a significant boost for the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the Marathwada region.

Six Shiv Sena UBT MPs prepare to explain shift in leadership
Six out of nine Lok Sabha MPs from the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction are set to publicly explain their decision to move away from the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray. The MPs have already met with the Lok Sabha Speaker to submit their position.
The UBT camp has issued show-cause notices to these members, citing anti-party conduct for skipping a parliamentary meeting. This development follows the 2022 party split and poses a significant challenge to the organization's presence in Delhi. The rebel MPs are expected to argue that the party drifted from its original ideology, while the UBT leadership maintains that this is an engineered defection.
The legal situation remains complex, as the anti-defection law requires a two-thirds majority for a split to be recognized. With six MPs involved, the group is testing the threshold of the Tenth Schedule. Uddhav Thackeray is planning to tour constituencies including Yavatmal, Parbhani, Hingoli, Dharashiv, and Shirdi to reconnect with voters and address the political impact of this move.
