TMC Withdraws Candidate Abdul Salam from Nagaon Bypoll
Trinamool Congress pulled out of the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election. Abdul Salam, the party candidate and a former vice-principal of Dhing College, will not run for the seat. MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed confirmed the decision and mentioned special reasons for the change.
Withdrawal details
This decision follows a disagreement over the party name and election symbol. Election Commission officials temporarily froze the use of the All India Trinamool Congress name and the traditional Flowers and Grass symbol for this contest. Party leaders chose to exit the race to protest this choice.
With this change, 15 candidates are left for the election on October 6. Votes will be counted on October 9.
