Palamu officials scrutinise citizenship claims for electoral rolls
Election officials in Palamu are looking into the applications of two Nepal-born women wanting to be added to the local voter list. These women have lived in Daltonganj for many years after getting married and applied during the latest voter list update camp.
Application review process
Assistant electoral registration officer Amardeep Balhotra said these cases are being checked using Election Commission rules. Because the women were born outside India, they must prove their citizenship through registration or naturalisation under the Citizenship Act.
Officials pointed out that an Aadhaar card does not prove Indian citizenship. It is only used to show identity and where someone lives.
The applicants are currently working to gather the required documents about their parents to support their claims. District election officer Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat has asked staff to finish processing all pending applications and complaints from the update drive quickly.

Voter Roll Revision Hurdles in Jharkhand
Election officials in Jharkhand are working through a difficult problem during the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. The Election Commission accepts a family register as proof of citizenship, but this document does not exist in the state. People living in areas like Daltonganj and Hussainabad are keeping a close eye on this situation.
Document issues for residents
Officials are using the vanshavaali or family tree instead. Circle officers usually issue this, but they are currently busy running revision camps. This has made it hard for people to check their details. Revenue staff are working at camps until October 19, so local offices have few people available to help. Many residents also find it hard to provide required documents like the khatian. These land records are often in bad shape or simply hard to get.

Family uses WWII medal to prove lineage for voter list
A family in Daltonganj recently used a piece of family history to confirm their voting rights. During the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) camp in Jharkhand, the Ghai family showed a Second World War medal and a 1953 army service record to prove their Indian roots.
The siblings were previously in the no-mapping category. This means their names were not automatically linked to the 2003 electoral roll. This category affects more than 14 lakh voters across the state. These people must now provide proof of identity and residence to stay on the voter list.
Military records as proof
It is unusual to see historic military honors used as evidence for a modern administrative process. The family is originally from Amritsar. They hope these documents help officials confirm their status as real voters. In Palamu alone, over 72,000 unmapped voters are working to find any records they have to prove their history.

Family Uses WWII Medal to Prove Lineage at Voter Revision Camp
A family in Daltonganj recently used history to solve a paperwork problem. At a special revision camp at Palamu Club, the Ghai family showed a Second World War medal and a 1953 service record that belonged to their late father, Munni Lall Ghai. They hoped these would prove their Indian citizenship.
These six siblings had been labeled as no-mapping in the electoral rolls. This meant their records did not link to the 2003 voter list. This issue impacts many people who find it hard to track down official records for their parents. Although the officials at the camp appreciated the old documents, they mostly used standard ID like passports to verify the claims.
Verification drive in Jharkhand
Jharkhand is currently running a large verification drive. More than 14 lakh voters across the state are still unmapped. In Palamu alone, over 72,000 voters face this same problem. Local officials suggest that families bring any proof of home address or family history to these camps. This will help make sure their names stay on the voter list.

Voter List Update: How to Restore Deleted Names in Jharkhand
If your name was removed from the voter list as an ASDD entry, you can still apply to get it back. Special Intensive Revision helps eligible voters file claims and submit proof.
Apply by: Submit your claims and documents by September 4, 2026. You are responsible for proving your eligibility, not the government.
Important update for voters
Officials in Palamu listed over 2.65 lakh people as ASDD. This category covers voters marked as absent, shifted, or duplicate. If you got a notice, respond quickly to stop your name from being deleted permanently. You cannot restore a deceased voter, but living voters wrongly marked as dead can fix this right away. Residents of Daltonganj, Panki, and Bishrampur should check their status carefully.
Election Commission cannot decide on citizenship. If your name was deleted because of citizenship doubts, the issue must go to the authority under the Citizenship Act. For legal details, check the recent Supreme Court judgment on voter list clarity.

Palamu DC clarifies Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls
Palamu Deputy Commissioner Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat says residents should see the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as a celebration. He says it is not something to worry about. The main aim is to make sure every eligible voter is included and remove names that do not belong.
Some people are worried, but the official says this process is only about adding people. About 86% of parental mapping is already done in the district. If you are not mapped yet, do not panic. You can finish the check by showing a birth certificate or other required documents. People in Daltonganj and nearby areas should check their status.
Voter list update process
Note that an Aadhaar card is not enough for parental mapping. You must provide another valid document too. Booth Level Officers will start home visit campaigns on June 30. They will try to visit your house three times if it is locked.
If you are still not home, the officer will leave an enumeration form at your house. Sign two copies of this form. Keep one copy for your own records.
