The Election Commission of India is conducting a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to clean up the national voter list. This initiative aims to replace approximately 30 crore blurred or outdated photographs on Voter ID cards with clear, color images.
Key updates from the ongoing exercise:
- Improved Accuracy: Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are verifying voter details door-to-door to ensure the list is accurate.
- Data Correction: Voter cards will now display proper addresses instead of placeholder values like '00' for house numbers.
- Duplicate Removal: Advanced analytics are being used to identify and remove duplicate, deceased, or shifted voters under the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Deceased) category.
- Legal Status: The Supreme Court has upheld the validity of the SIR process, confirming the Election Commission's authority to verify voter data.
The third phase of this revision covers 16 states and 3 union territories, with the entire process scheduled to conclude by 23 December 2026. Residents in constituencies such as Ibrahimpatnam, Channapatna, and Patna Sahib are encouraged to check their details online.
