What Was the Sikkim Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026?
Many residents wonder why the 2026 revision was termed a "Special Intensive Revision" rather than an ordinary annual revision. Here is what made it distinct:
- 100% Door-to-Door Verification: Booth Level Officers (BLOs) physically visited households across all 6 districts between May 30 and June 28, 2026, distributing and collecting enumeration slips.
- Protecting Genuine Electoral Rights: In Sikkim, maintaining an authentic voter roll is essential given special constitutional frameworks (such as Article 371F) and residency requirements. The intensive exercise ensured that genuine, eligible residents are fully protected and recorded.
- Eliminating ASDD Entries: Over 37,000 duplicate, shifted, or deceased names were segregated into the ASDD list during the draft stage to prevent ghost voting and ensure transparent, fair elections.
- Transparent Claims Period: Citizens who found any error in the draft list had an entire month (July 5 to August 4, 2026) to file claims or corrections before the roll was finalized on September 6, 2026.
