Election Commission of India (ECI) has confirmed that next assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will be conducted as planned in 2027. This clears up confusion in political circles and puts an end to rumors about early polls.
Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly term will end on May 22, 2027. ECI can hold elections up to six months early. However, as per the latest update from the chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the election timeline will likely stay the same. Census work is also happening now and main census activities are planned for February 2027. However, census schedule might change or move if it clashes with assembly elections.
No By-Elections in Ghosi, Duddhi and Faridpur
No by-elections will happen for vacant assembly seats in Ghosi, Duddhi and Faridpur. As per the election commission, less than one year remains in the current assembly term, so these elections aren't required. These seats became empty after the MLAs died.
