Voter Roll Revision Sparks Controversy in Uttarakhand
Concerns are growing in Uttarakhand because a special update of voter lists has led to thousands of objections against registered voters. Opposition leaders say this is a targeted deletion of names from the lists. The draft list shows fewer voters than in 2022, which has worried many residents.
In areas like Kichha, thousands of objections were filed. Many claim voters have permanently moved or have duplicate entries. Similar patterns appeared in Gadarpur, Khatima, Nanakmatta, and Rudrapur. Local BJP representatives say they are just finding duplicate entries, but Congress leaders argue the process is being used to interfere with the election.
Voter verification process
Election officials say no real voter will be removed without a proper check and a chance to show proof. This process continues until September 11. Many citizens are worried about whether they will still be able to vote.

Massive Voter Deletion Requests Filed in Uttarakhand
People in Uttarakhand are worried after more than 6,500 mass requests were filed to remove names from voter lists during the current revision process. These requests, which mostly target Muslim voters, were sent in by people linked to Bharatiya Janata Party across five areas.
In Kichha, one person filed nearly 4,857 requests, claiming the entries were duplicates. Similar cases happened in Gadarpur, Khatima, Nanakmatta, and Rudrapur. Party agents submitted hundreds of forms to delete names. Some agents say they are dealing with migration, but residents say their names are being unfairly targeted.
Election Commission rules and voter status
Election Commission of India rules require officials to personally check mass applications if one person files more than 30. Local registration officers have given different answers on how they are handling these large numbers of filings. The final voter lists will be published on September 15. Many voters are worried about whether they will still be on the list.
